Computer Information Systems

Prerequisites: Elementary, Middle and High School

Provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a computer. Students begin the course with a fully functional computer system. The computer components are removed and identified while discussing how the components are configured and operate. During reassembly the hard drive is partitioned, formatted and the operating system with all device drivers are installed. Students acquire the skills necessary to repair computer software and hardware problems and the ability to upgrade computer hardware and software. Real learning is experienced by applying the skills learned on computers systems brought into the classroom for repair or upgrade by students. Students will learn the tips and techniques necessary to optimize Windows performance. Tips include upgrading memory, using defrag and disk cleanup, deleting temp files, downsizing startup programs, updating the operating system, programs, drivers, firmware and more.
